Mission It is our mission to provide all that we take for granted to the orphans in Rwanda, and to ultimately provide lasting change in their lives. 4-more family, water, life, love for Rwandan orphans. See what inspires us.Vision Family: While our primary focus is to provide support for orphans while they await the love of adoptive families, we will also provide support for families as they await their children.Water: The simple provision of direct access to clean water will improve the quality of life for Rwandan orphans at a fundamental level, setting the stage for lasting change in their lives and the lives of the families who seek to adopt.Life: While working to provide clean water to improve general health, we will look for simultaneous opportunities to enhance the lives of the children including efforts to meet developmental, nutritional, and medical needs.Love: Ultimately, our goal is to help each Rwandan orphan feel less alone and more loved, intimately connected with their heavenly Father and a family of their own.

Our StoryWhat are 4 things you take for granted? That you have a family? Clean water you can drink, risk free? Being healthy – or having quick access to medical care? How about knowing there is one person who loves you just because you were born?Our organization was formed primarily to find ways to give all that we take for granted to orphaned children in Rwanda – and ultimately, to provide lasting change in their lives.4-more was established when one of our founders returned from Rwanda after adopting her son in the summer of 2009. We started with a simple focus: do more for the orphans in Rwanda. Then we identified a simple need: shoes. The response to our first fundraising drive was overwhelming – hundreds of shoes were donated from all over the nation.Doing more became something bigger than just a one-time campaign, and we determined to develop into an organization that would make a real and need-based difference.We learned that the most fundamental element that can bring lasting change to the orphans of Rwandan is access to clean water – which may in many cases save lives. So far, 4-more has provided funding for three clean water projects in Kigali, Rwanda. That's just the beginning. 4-more plans to utilize strategic partnerships to assess the needs of individual orphan villages throughout Rwanda, and provide funding for those in need through our comprehensive Clean Water Project.And though clean water is certainly a primary need, 4-more is actively looking into additional opportunites to meet other important needs in various avenues.

Directors
Director of Rwandan Relations: Laurel GreerLaurel graduated from Messiah College with B.S. in elementary education and a focus on multicultural education. In 2000, she traveled independently to Rwanda and taught for 2 years in Kigali and also provided marketing support for Amani ya Juu. While there, Laurel (Rwandan name: Umuhosa) met and married her muzungu husband, Peter. After she returned to the States, she continued her teaching career in Boston, MA. Laurel currently resides in Landisville, PA with her husband and 3 children, Keith, Liliana, and Myles. She continues her work with a group of widows in Rwanda to this day.
Director of Marketing: Heather HohenwarterAfter graduating from University of Florida, Heather began her career as a publicist in New York City – working on national product launches, event management and media exposure for clients such as Keds, Molton Brown London and Aldo. Most recently, Heather worked in Senior Management for Harrisburg-based integrated marketing firm Sacunas, where she led a team of designers, publicists and marketing specialists in brand development, publicity and marketing strategy. She lives in Elizabethtown, PA with her husband John, sons Aidan and Max and stepson Jack.

Director of Finance: Alanna HeathAlanna is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.S. in Accounting from Messiah College. She began her career in public accounting with an international accounting firm, after which, she worked at a Fortune 500 retail corporation. Alanna spent the last 5 years working in the nonprofit sector; as Controller for Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade retailer, and then in the finance department of HOPE International, a Christ-centered microenterprise development organization. She currently lives in Lancaster, PA with her husband, Mark.

Director of Development: Christina Kyllonen Christina holds a B.A. in English from the University of Millersville in Pennsylvania. Post graduation, Christina worked as the coordinator for special events for a Pennsylvania Real Estate Company. She now lives in Elizabethtown, PA with her husband, Chad, and their three children, Ethan, Simon, and Aubrie - and the newest addition soon to be home with her family from Ethiopia, Ruby.

We will provide step-by-step instructions, ideas on how to get your community involved and guidance on how to get people walking. It's simple! Current Projects

Kicukiro School OVERVIEWThe Kicukiro School, the largest in Rwanda, is located on the south side of Kigali and has approximately 3,500 students in the primary grades through secondary school. Currently the students have no access to potable drinking water throughout the school day, nor do they have any access to water or soap for washing after using the outhouse/toilets.These students are at risk children in terms of nutrition, being from child headed households, or having a lack of access to basic health-care programs. The school and the community do not have the resources provide these things on their own.October 13 personal/non-water related update from our partner: "This is a huge school and it was a real treat to walk around during recess with the vice-headmaster, Lambert, who seemed to know most of the kids and to genuinely care about them."PROJECT PLANWork has started in constructing six large underground rain-harvesting cisterns. Each cistern will collect and store close to 35,000 liters of water. Two above-ground, 10,000 liter water tanks will provide filtered water specifically for students and teachers to use for drinking. The other tanks will be used primarily for cleaning and hygiene. The toilets will all have washing stations, known locally as stepnwashes. We also plan to implement a sanitation/hygiene program, which can typically cause an immediate drop in sick/absentee days by students of over 25%.This project's projected completion is late November.GOALOur goal is to ensure the children at this school have access to water every school day for drinking and washing, and for the school to have general access to water for cleaning purposes. Furthermore, we would like to see every student and teacher obtain a general understanding of the importance of healthy hygiene practices - which is crucial to maintaining overall health.Click HERE to donate to this project.

Butare School

Our second October project is happening at the same time as the Kicukiro school is our Butare primary school. This project will serve 700 children. We are building a 35,000 liter underground tank for drinking water and will move their existing tank to a toilet area for hand washing stations. Sinks currently do not exist at the school. We are at a point in the work where one of our partners will move from Kigali to Butare and stay through the end of the project - which should be approximately 3 more weeks. Some families with children at the school are housing the technicians as a way of contributing to the project. The pastor of the church adjacent to the school is being a tremendous help. His church runs programs for the "at-risk" and orphaned children in the area, as well as giving assistance to widows and to women and children whose husbands/fathers are in prison. We are honored to be part of this amazing Rwandan-initiated ministry.

Ntarama Orphan Village, Kigali, RwandaOur partners on the ground in Rwanda , Water for Life, have spearheaded the comprehensive clean water project - funded by generous donations to 4-more. Now, over 1,000 genocide orphans and widows now have access to clean water through a unique and resourceful network of rain catchment gutters, sanitation stations, water tanks and a well. These many touch points of clean water provide a multi-layered approach that eliminates miles and miles of walking that (mainly children) have been responsible for daily. There's even a new water supply for the cattle - resulting in more milk for the villagers. Ntarama (n-HAR-ama) Orphan Village (“imfubyi umudugudu”) is a housing community provided for displaced genocide orphans. The grounds consist of housing for the orphans, a school and a health clinic, including a unique maternity care facility. For the nearly 1,000 residents, there was no access to even contaminated water, other than catching a little rain off the roofs when they could.In addition to improving the overall health of the orphan community, the provision of clean water will also provide a valuable income source for the village.

donate Village of Peace Orphanage in Kigali, Rwanda Some Facts About the Orphanage:-Located in Gikondo, Triumphant Cross Orphanage was started in 1992 and the campus is called The Village of Peace-There are seven houses with about 15 children and 2 house moms in each-The school was built for approximately 100 orphans (infants through secondary school age) who live at the Village of Peace but also has allowed children whose families are living on the same hill to attend St. Jacobs School.-This past year for the first time they were able to get three of the orphans into the university in Rwanda.-There is a bio-fuel tank at the bottom of the orphanage that collects all the human and animal waste (they keep some cows to provide milk) and use it to create gas for all their cooking.-The two main problems they have are with drinking water and erosion from rain-water run-off. Both of these problems are most evident at the primary school building at the orphanage.-The vision for the school is to raise the children with a strong focus on education and teaching a trade, so they can get involved and give back to the communitySome Facts About the Water Project:-Our partner, Water for Life, installed the water system.-Gutters were added all along the roof leading to a water tank on the far left side of the building.-The excess water will be piped down the hill to prevent further erosion that is quickly eating away the land in front of the school-This three-part system provides one tank for drinking, one for washing and cleaning, and a system to bring excess water down the side of the hill to help prevent erosion around the orphanages school building.-The water level in the tanks replenishes during the two rainy seasons each year and should have the capacity to provide ample water for all the kids through the dry seasons.-40,000 liters of water is now available for the children.-Our goal is to provide at least 1 liter of clean drinking water for each child each day.
